Compassion is the greatest form of love humans have to offer. - Rachel Scott
Unfortunately, the media that covered such events, like the Walk-Out, did not focus on what was important and misled many viewers. Please know the fact before pointing finger at the students, who are our future.
In my daughter's school, they mentioned the achievements of those 17 students and who they were. They also mentioned the importance on recognizing mental illness and to spread awareness. They were challenged 17 things to do in order to SPREAD KINDNESS TO EVERYONE around us. It was not about taking away anyone's 2nd amendment rights. Students had an opportunity to speak out for what they believed in. Both sides of the argument on guns joined hands to show that they were united as students. That is democracy.
Have you heard of RACHEL'S CHALLENGE? Google it!! That's one of the programs many schools support!
Rachel Scott was the first student killed in the Columbine High School shooting in 1999. Darrell Scott, Rachel's father, established Rachel's Challenge to perpetuate his daughter's example and the two-page "Code of Ethics" she wrote a month before her death at the hands of the perpetrators of the Columbine High School shooting, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. This code of ethics had included the words: "Compassion is the greatest form of love humans have to offer".
I told my children that there are different voices and views. That is democracy. They should not be disappointed by those different voices and views and should not be discouraged. I want to teach them to be calm and sensible and make a different!!
